PETALING JAYA: Any goal is attainable if one can be self-motivated and focused enough to achieve it, says Tan Sri A.K. Nathan (pic).
The Eversendai Corp Bhd executive chairman and group managing director said that failure was to be expected but if you could said through the difficult periods, your company would take-off when things improved.
“Nothing is impossible. Whatever your mind can conceive and believe, you can achieve,” he told a packed audience during a two-hour session at the Star Media Group’s PowerTalks: Business Series event here on Saturday.
From humble beginnings as a printing machine operator, to now spearheading one of the most prominent structural steel turnkey contractors in the world, Nathan said “persistence” was everything.
“Being an entrepreneur is not easy. It’s very, very, very tough! “But if you work at it, it will be attainable,” he said.
Eversendai was first established in 1984. Today, it is recognised as a leading global organisation in undertaking turnkey contracts, delivering projects for high-rise buildings, power plants, and oil & gas upstream and downstream.
To-date, it has 10 regional offices with a workforce of 15,000, an impressive portfolio of more than 300 accomplished projects in 15 countries and seven fabrication facilities with an annual capacity of 234,000 tonnes.
Eversendai was contracted to do the fabrication and erection of steel structure for Petronas Twin Tower 2, followed by the erection of the sky bridge connecting Towers 1 and 2. Prior to Tower 2, the company was awarded the contract for KL Tower.
The Petronas Twin Tower 2 project led the way to even more projects after that.
This included the structural steel erection works for Burj Al Arab in Dubai, Emirates Towers, Etihad Tower, New Doha International Airport as well as Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building.
